Christmas party in a restaurant: how to plan it in 2026
A company Christmas party or a pre-Christmas get-together with friends is part of December in the Czech Republic just like Christmas cookies. The best dates go in October and November. Organising one in Prague, Brno or elsewhere this year? Here is how to do it without stress.
1. Pick a date early
December Fridays are most in demand – in 2026 they fall on 4, 11 and 18 December. Christmas Eve, the main Czech Christmas day, is Thursday 24 December, so the week before Christmas is usually too late. Consider a Thursday, or a January “after-Christmas” party when venues are quieter.
2. Choosing a restaurant
- Capacity and space: is a private room enough, or do you need the whole venue?
- Access: close to the metro, a tram stop or the station makes the trip home easier.
- Equipment: check microphone, projector or music in advance.
- Accessibility and cloakroom: in winter a cloakroom matters more than you'd think.
3. Buffet or set menu?
A buffet suits bigger groups who want to mingle. A served menu feels more festive and is easier to plan for smaller teams. Collect allergies and dietary requirements beforehand and pass them on early.
4. Drinks and budget
Agree whether you pay for actual consumption or a fixed package per person. Ask about the deposit and cancellation terms – guest numbers often change at the last minute in December. Don't forget soft drinks and transport home.
5. Programme: less is more
A short speech, then free time. Want something extra? Ask about a beer or wine tasting – many Potrefená husa locations hold tastings and evening events. Comparing Czech pouring styles is fun too: most colleagues have never ordered a hladinka, šnyt and mlíko side by side. We explain them in how to spot a well-kept beer.
Where to hold it
For larger company events in Prague, Na Verandách in Smíchov, right inside the Staropramen brewery, has about 800 seats, private rooms and a music bar and also hosts corporate events and conferences. Capacity, prices and free dates for 2026 must be confirmed with the restaurant – all addresses are on our locations page.
