The Potrefená husa concept

When the first restaurant with the unusual name Potrefená husa opened in Prague's Vinohrady in 1999, it answered a simple question: how do you combine Czech beer culture with a modern restaurant? Instead of a smoky pub, it offered a place for lunch with colleagues, an evening with friends or a beer after work.

Beer comes first

The offer is built around Staropramen beers. The classic pale 11° and 12° lagers lead the list, joined by dark and amber lagers and seasonal or specialty beers. Some venues – such as Platnéřská in Prague – pour up to seven beers at once.

Food: Czech classics and international dishes

The menu pairs Czech dishes that go with beer with international food. A staple across many locations is duck – roasted with cabbage and two kinds of dumplings, or as confit legs. You will also find burgers, salads, steaks and a weekday lunch menu.

Setting and events

Each location has its own character. Na Verandách in Smíchov sits right inside the Staropramen brewery, offers about 800 seats across private rooms, a music bar and the main hall, and also hosts corporate events and conferences. Smaller venues in other towns feel more like neighbourhood restaurants. Many locations hold tastings and evening events.

Why the concept works

  • A clear identity – a name people remember and consistent beer quality everywhere.
  • Local operators – venues are often run by different operators who adapt the offer to their town.
  • All day long – lunch menu, afternoon drinks and evening programme.
